Expected to be priced around INR 1.7 lakhs.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan has been caught on video by a RushLane reader in Chennai city traffic. It appears to be the entry-level/city variant of what is being developed as a true-blue adventure tourer.
It was recently revealed that the Himalayan gets an air-cooled engine with a separate oil-cooler, just like the Bajaj Pulsar 220 does. The motor is believed to be a 410 cc unit with a Single Over-Head Camshaft and a counter balancer. It is expected to produce about 28 PS of maximum power and 32 Nm of peak torque, mated to a five-speed transmission.
The power will be sent to Ceat tyres shod on spoke wheels of different diameters. Pirelli tyres could be offered optionally. Both the wheels are equipped with disc brakes. ABS may not be offered initially even as an option.

Two variants of the Royal Enfield Himalayan are expected to be introduced - one that is off-road friendly with dual-purpose tyres and adventure accessories, and another that is city-focussed with simple tyres and no add-ons. The Himalayan is anticipated to be launched at or around the time of the 2016 Auto Expo which opens on February 5.
