Assembled locally, at the Chakan plant.
Mercedes Benz India has launched the Mercedes GLE at a starting price of INR 58.9 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The SUV is nothing but the M Class facelift which is complying with the German automaker's new nomenclature, and a fresh design language that is seen on the current S-Class and the C-Class.
The changes on the exterior include a new grille flanked by Multibeam LED headlamps, re-styled bumpers, a re-designed LED taillamp assembly and dual exhausts.
The interior of the GLE features minor changes compared to the outgoing M-Class, that includes a new three-spoke steering wheel, a fresh button layout on the centre console, new AC vents and a freestanding 7-inch COMAND display on the dashboard.
The powertrain options are retained from the M-Class, which includes two diesel motors: an inline-four-cylinder unit capable of 204 PS & 500 Nm, and a V6 engine that dishes out 258 PS & 620 Nm. They are offered as the GLE 250d and the GLE 350d respectively. Both models are equipped with Mercedes's 4MATIC AWD system via the new 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The 9-speed gearbox is introduced in India through the GLE.
The Mercedes GLE is locally assembled at Mercedes Benz’s plant in Chakan, Pune.
