The Baleno in the video is the DDiS 190 in the top-end Alpha variant. Power comes from a 1.3-liter diesel engine pushing out 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Maruti claims the Baleno diesel is good for 27.39 km/l.
The Baleno will also get the 1.2-liter K-Series petrol engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. The engine develops 84.3 PS and 115 Nm of torque, and returns 21.4 km/l irrespective of the gearbox. While the manual variant will come in four variants, the CVT will be available in a single 'Delta' trim only. However, all variants of the Baleno get ABS, EBD and dual front airbags as standard.
The Baleno will rival the likes of the VW Polo, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Honda Jazz. Apart from the domestic market, Maruti will also be responsible for manufacturing the Baleno for 100 global markets including Europe and Japan.
The Baleno is manufactured at the Manesar plant with localization of ~99 percent. Bookings for the hatchback are open at Maruti's NEXA outlets, which by the time of the Baleno's launch would have risen to 80 points.
