Lighter than the Swift thanks to the all-new platform.
Maruti Suzuki have disclosed technical specifications of the Baleno, at a media event today.
The Baleno will come with a 1.2-liter K-Series petrol engine developing 83.1 bhp and 115 Nm of torque, and a 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine capable of 73.9 bhp and 190 Nm of torque. The diesel gets a 5-speed manual whereas the petrol is available with a 5-speed manual and a CVT gearbox.
Coming to its specifications, the premium hatchback measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,745 mm in width, 1,500 mm in height and 2,520 mm in wheelbase. It will get a 37 liter fuel tank, and weigh 960 kg with the DDiS engine and 890 kg with the K-Series engine and manual transmission. Thanks to its all-new platform, the Baleno is lighter than the Swift, despite being larger.
The top-end Alpha variant of the Baleno will get Apple CarPlay and ride on 16-inch alloy wheels, whereas other variants get 15-inch wheels. However, all variants will get ABS, EBD and dual front airbags as standard. The option of a CVT will be available on the Delta variant, as reported earlier. A detailed variant-wise feature list can be found here.
The Baleno will be the second product to be sold from Maruti's NEXA range of outlets. Some outlets have started accepting bookings for INR 25,000, ahead of a launch reported to take place on October 26.
