The Maruti Baleno has received over 4,600 bookings already, and certain variants of the premium hatchback, depending on the city, have a waiting period of 6-8 weeks.
The Baleno was launched in India earlier in the week, with prices ranging from INR 4.99 – 7.01 lakhs for the petrol, and INR 6.16 – 8.11 lakhs for the diesel, ex-Showroom, New Delhi. According to recent reports, these prices are expected to increase post the festive season period.
The Baleno will be manufactured solely in India, for the rest of the world. Exports of the premium hatchback are announced to start early next year, with Europe and Japan being key markets. The India-made Baleno is also being showcased at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show 2015.
The petrol variant of the Baleno is powered by a 1.2-liter K-Series petrol engine capable of 84.3 PS and 115 Nm of torque, and is paired to a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. The diesel variant, which uses a 1.3-liter diesel engine, develops 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque, and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
All variants of the Baleno get ABS, EBD and dual front airbags as standard. On the top-end Alpha variant, the hatchback is equipped with 16-inch alloy wheels, projector headlights with HID units, a color TFT screen and a 7-inch touchscreen entertainment system with Apple CarPlay.
