The BR-V is based on the Honda Brio/Amaze platform.

For both markets, the petrol engine of the BR-V will be carried over from the Honda City. The 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine will develop 118 hp and 145 Nm of torque. In Indonesia, this engine engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual or a newly-developed CVT.

For the Indian market, the BR-V will also use the 1.5-liter i-DTEC diesel engine, though a report says that Honda is likely to choose a 1.6-liter i-DTEC engine specifically for the BR-V.
