The Skoda Octavia is expected to get a full model change by 2019. However prior to that, Skoda will be giving the D-segment sedan a comprehensive facelift in 2017. AutoBild reports that the facelift will also get three-cylinder engines.
The facelift will see major changes focused on the fascia as seen in this render by the magazine. The headlights are expected to be split up reminiscent of the design of the 2009 Mercedes E Class. The image also shows a slightly modified radiator grille as well as a new front bumper split by a chrome strip and flanked by rectangular fog lamps.
The interior will mostly be upgraded with finer quality of materials and new colours to give it a more modern feel. The cabin will receive updates to equipment such as the infotainment unit, which is likely to get traffic data in real time for the navigation system; with better connectivity and app support for smartphones, as per AutoBild. A host of new safety features and driver assistance systems are also in the offing.
The magazine report says that apart from the existing lineup, a new three cylinder unit will be introduced with outputs varying from 90 to 120 hp. These units are said to be 10 percent more fuel efficient than the current lot of four-pot engines.
