The next generation E Class will have its world premiere at the Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) in January 2016, post which European sales are expected to start around mid-2016. The W213 E Class, based on the MRA platform which underpins the new C Class, is expected to be 55 mm longer than the current generation model, suggesting that interior space, especially at the rear, could set a new benchmark.

Existing four-cylinder petrol engines and next generation OM654 four-cylinder diesel engines will power the W213 E Class, though higher up the range, all-new 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder units will be seen. The range-topping AMG will be powered by the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which also finds its place under the hoods of the AMG-GT and C63 AMG.

The new E Class is expected to measure around 55 mm longer than its predecessor.

The E Class remains one of the best selling models for Mercedes-Benz in India. Expect a launch to take place towards end-2016, wherein initial 'launch units' of the 2016 E Class would arrive through the CBU route. However, Mercedes-Benz India will waste no time in the start of local assembly of the executive sedan at their plant in Chakan, Pune.
