According to reports, the new E Class will be 55 mm longer than the outgoing model, but has shorter overhangs to accommodate the stretched wheelbase in a similar overall length. The exterior design will be a mix of cues from the 2015 Mercedes C Class and 2014 Mercedes S Class, so as to highlight its middle ground position.
Along with the regular sedan and estate variants, reports suggest that Mercedes will also introduce a pseudo-crossover variant (codenamed X213) that will rival the Audi A6 Allroad. It is expected to arrive in dealerships in 2017.

As for the engine lineup, it will comprise of next generation 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engines (codename – OM654) and existing four-cylinder petrol engines. Higher variants will reportedly offer an all new range of 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbo engines, and the 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine would power the AMG variant.
Mercedes will, reportedly, take the wraps off the new E Class at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show (2016 NAIAS) in January. An Indian launch could take place in late-2016, where the new E Class will be assembled at the company’s plant in Chakan, Pune, following its launch as a CBU model.
