The Royal Enfield Continental GT, launched in Nepal in February last year, is on display at the 2015 NADA Auto Show that kicked off on Tuesday. The 535 cc cafe-racer is available at a price of NPR 721,000 (INR 4.48 lakhs). Dugar Brother and Sons is the authorized distributor of the motorcycle.
The bike manufactured in India (at RE’s plant in Oragadam, Chennai) sporting a 535 cc single-cylinder engine that produces 29.1 hp and 44 Nm. It sports a telescopic suspension at the front and Paioli gas charged dampers at the rear.
Stopping power is provided by a 300 mm floating disc dual-caliper brake at the front and a 240 mm single piston floating caliper disc at the rear, sourced from Italian brake manufacturer Brembo.
The original Continental GT cafe-racer was introduced in 1965, and its resurrection was mooted by the company at the 2010 Auto Expo where it showcased a concept. Royal Enfield says that the Continental GT depicts the cafe-racer culture from Britain in the 1960s where stripped down bikes received custom-made parts for street racing in short stretches. The currently sold version was developed with UK-based forms Harris Engineering and Xenophya designs.
