Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) will be launching the Honda BR-V in the first quarter of the next financial year (April - June 2016) reports Motor Octane. The company is yet to acknowledge that the car is in its business plan, but has strongly hinted its interest in the SUV market.

The BR-V made its debut at the 2015 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show in Indonesia in August. The 7-seater is based on the Brio's platform and will offer space for seven people. With dimensions of 4,455 mm length, 1,735 mm width, 1,650 mm height and a wheelbase of 2,660 mm, the car has a ground clearance of over 200 mm.

Features on the display vehicle were a 6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, projector headlights with LED DRLs, electrically-operated ORVMs and auto climate control. The second row of seats will come with one-button tumble feature with the third row seats having a 50:50 split option, reports MotorOctane. Dual front airbags, EBD and ABS, are a given in the BR-V top-spec variant. Honda has confirmed VSA and Hill Start Assist for the Indonesian BR-V.

The BR-V offers seating for seven occupants and stands on 16-inch wheels.

In India, the BR-V should come with a choice of 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. In Indonesia, the petrol engine will generate figures of 120 hp and 145 Nm of torque; it will be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission with a CVT option.

The diesel engine is reported by Motor Octane to get a slightly better output (up from the 100 PS/200 Nm configuration of the Amaze). The website reports that the oil burner will be paired only to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The India-spec BR-V may debut at the 2016 Auto Expo that opens in early February.
