Will go on sale in the U.K. from the beginning of 2016.
Ford of Europe has unwrapped the Euro-spec 2016 Ford Edge at the ongoing 2015 IAA (Frankfurt Motor Show). The Ford Mondeo-based full-size SUV is set to hit the British showrooms soon after the calendar turns leaf. The price of the 2015 Ford Edge is expected to start at around £28,000 (INR 28.61 lakhs), and it will have three variant levels - Trend, Sport and Titanium.
The five-seat luxury SUV from the American automaker, is based on the new Mondeo sedan's platform. To compete with the German nameplates such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and the VW Touareg, the new Edge is touted to be a better value proposition with more space than the aforementioned crossovers. Positioned above the Ford Kuga and Ford EcoSport, the Ford Edge SUV is loaded with powerful engines and functional equipment, says Ford.
The entry-level Ford Edge is propelled by a 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine producing 188 bhp maximum power and 400 Nm peak torque, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The higher variant gets a 2.0-litre TDCi bi-turbo diesel engine, that is capable of pushing out 207 bhp and 450 Nm. The SUV also gets Ford's Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system, which ensures that each of the tyres on the 20-inch wheels are in good contact with the road surface in all conditions.
