First open top S Class after 44 years.
The 2016 Mercedes S Class Cabriolet has been unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (2015 IAA). The model is visually akin to the Mercedes Benz S Class Coupe except for the fabric roof.
The retractable acoustic soft top is made of three layers, and comes in black, beige, dark blue and dark red colours. Despite the massive size, the fabric roof can be enabled or folded down in around 20 seconds even while driving at speeds of up to 60 km/h (37.2 mph).
For a more dynamic look, the Mercedes S Class Cabriolet AMG Line is available, which comes with an AMG developed body kit that features larger intakes, exclusive AMG rims, dual exhaust tips and a small diffuser between them.
The optional features list includes an AIR-BALANCE package which creates a fragrant aura inside the cabin with a variety of scents, an AIRCAP automatic wind protection system, an AIRSCARF neck-level heating system, and a Warmth Comfort package that includes heated seats, armrests and multifunction steering wheel.
The standard features in the 2016 S Class Cabrio include an all-new THERMOTRONIC intelligent climate control system that maintains the comfort level regardless of the roof being opened or closed, and others from the S Class Coupe, like the dual 12.1-inch displays for the COMAND infotainment system and the instrument cluster, a Burmester audio system, Magic Body Control and an exclusive Nappa leather upholstery for seats in the choices of leather.
There are two variants of the 2016 Mercedes Benz S Class Cabriolet: Mercedes S 500 Cabriolet and AMG S 63 Cabriolet. The S500 Cabrio version powered by a twin-turbo 4.7-litre V8 engine that pushes out 455 PS (335 kW) maximum power and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) peak torque, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The Mercedes-AMG S63 or AMG S63 4MATIC Cabrio is driven by a twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 power plant that puts out 585 PS (430 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft). The latter sends power to all wheels, enabling the soft top to sprint from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically-limited to 250 km/h (155 mph).
The 2016 Mercedes S Class Cabriolet will be launched in Germany in December 2015, while deliveries will commence during the spring of next year. The Mercedes S Class Cabriolet will rival super luxury cabriolets like the Bentley Continental GTC and the Rolls Royce Dawn.
