2016 Ducati Monster 1200R unveiled at VW Group night – 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show Live [Update]

Gets a punchier engine, sportier chassis and versatile electronics.

At the Volkswagen Group Night ahead of 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2015), the new 2016 Ducati Monster 1200R has been unveiled. Featuring a more powerful engine bolted on a sportier chassis, the new Monster 1200R is wrapped in a more sophisticated design, making it a truly evolved version of the 1200R nameplate.

The new Monster 1200R packs 160 horsepower (117.7 kW) from the same 1198.4 cc, Testastretta 11° DS, L-Twin cylinders, Desmodromic, liquid-cooled engine, at 9,250 rpm and 131.4 Nm (97 lb-ft) peak torque at 7,750 rpm. The motor is teamed up with the same 6-speed gearbox. The performance specifications are 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 3.2 seconds, and a top speed in excess of 250 km/h. Stopping proficiency is 37 m for 100 to 0 km/h deceleration.

The tubular steel Trellis frame (attached to the cylinder head) has been revised for sportier behaviour, and the wheels are Tri-W spoke forged alloy (3.50″ x 17″ at the front and 6.00″ x 17″ at the rear). They are shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP (120/70 ZR17 at the front and 200/55 ZR17 at the rear).

The new Monster 1200R is suspended by Ohlins fully adjustable 48mm usd forks upfront and Progressive linkage with fully adjustable Öhlins monoshock on aluminium single-sided swingarm at the rear.

The braking system has twin 330 mm semi-floating discs gripped by radially mounted Brembo Monobloc evo M50 4-piston calipers. There is a radial pump with ABS offered as standard. Braking at the rear is taken care of by a 245 mm disc governed by 2-piston caliper, with ABS as standard.

The equipment list includes the Ducati Safety Pack (DSP) as standard, which comprises of 8-level Ducati Traction Control (DTC), 9MP ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), Ducati Traction Control (DTC), and the like. The new 1200R Monster is equipped with fully adjustable electronics that makes it versatile to reconfigure. It can be adjusted for track riding as well as touring and there are 3 driving modes to choose from – Sport, Urban and Adventure.

Ducati says the new Monster 1200R is a better everyday motorcycle than its predecessor.
