The second generation 2016 BMW X1 has been spotted in the wild in Germany by Chinese web portal Autohome. The first member of the BMW’s X range to switch to the controversial UKL front-wheel drive platform gets an evolutionary design, more equipment and more efficient engines.
The 2016 BMW X1 is 4,439 mm long, 1,821 mm wide, 1,598 mm tall and has a 2,670 mm wheelbase. While it is 36 mm shorter than the outgoing model, it is 21 mm wider and 53 mm taller than it.
The cabin of the 2016 X1 is a big step up from that of the first generation featuring Head-up Display, a Navigation Plus option with a bigger 8.8-inch iDrive Control Display and an instrument cluster that displays routes in the integrated TFT display.
The 2016 BMW X1 gets a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine in 3 power states: an X1 sDrive18d with 150 hp/330 Nm, an X1 sDrive20d with 190 hp/400 Nm, and an X1 xDrive25d with 231 hp/450 Nm. The fuel consumption (NEDC) and emission for the engines are rated at 29.29 km/l and 109 g/km, 24.49 km/l and 128 g/km, and 24.02 km/l and 132 g/km, respectively. BMW India is unlikely to launch the X1 petrol.
The 2016 BMW X1 has already been spotted in India, where it has come for testing and homologation. The local launch is expected in the first half of 2016, with eventual assembly and localization at BMW’s facility in Chennai.
