A report on IndianCarsBikes shows that a top-end variant of the soon-to-be-launched Renault Kwid on a flatbed. The report also states that bookings for the crossover-type budget car has started at INR 25,000.
The small car was unveiled with much fanfare on May 20th this year. With the promise of a price range between INR 3 and INR 4 lakh, the Renault Kwid will take on the mighty Maruti Alto and the stylish Hyundai Eon. Apart from its unique design, the Kwid has a 98 percent localisation that could keep both initial costs and parts costs almost on par with the more established OEMs like Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki.
The Kwid will be launched in the festive season with a 800 cc 3-cylinder petrol engine that reportedly produces 57 bhp and 100 Nm of peak torque. A 1.0-liter engine is expected to follow in 2016.
At 3,680 mm in length, 1,580 mm in width, and 180 mm in ground clearance, the Kwid stands longer, wider, and higher than both its competitors. The Alto gets a length of 3,395 mm, width of 1,490 mm, and 160 mm in ground clearance, while the Eon is 3,495 mm long, 1,550 mm wide, and 170 mm in ground clearance.
