The SUV sports a dual slat chrome grille housing an angular pair of swept-back headlamps, and a simple lower fascia design.

Judging by the compact proportions and new design, we speculate that this could be the Chinese-spec second generation VW Tiguan. If so, this is the best look yet at the design of the 2016 VW Tiguan, which will be unveiled at the IAA 2015 in Frankfurt on September 15.

The SUV sports a dual slat chrome grille housing an angular pair of swept-back headlamps, and a simple lower fascia design. Compared to VW's current compact SUV, it has a curvier design that looks more like a mini-Touareg.

Being a next generation model, it's likely to be based on the company's MQB platform, and pack new engines compatible with the architecture, which include include a frugal 1.0-liter TSI three-cylinder engine and a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine.

The report states that the next generation SUV will be manufactured at the FAW-Volkswagen JV plant in Qingdao.
