Near-production model was revealed at Auto Shanghai 2015.

Hyundai has begun testing the China-spec Hyundai Tucson SUV, which is expected to be launched in August in China. It, alongside the PHEV variant, made its Chinese debut at the Auto Shanghai 2015 as a near-production model, following its global debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Beijing Hyundai confirmed that the model would launch in China later in the year.

Although the pre-production model appears to be camouflaged, the basic design will be similar to the international model, but will feature re-worked bumpers, grilles and taillight clusters exclusive to the Chinese model, as hinted by the concept. The design follows the Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 philosophy, which influences the Hyundai ix25 (Hyundai Creta).

Hyundai have not revealed the interior of the Chinese-spec Hyundai Tucson, although it's expected to remain largely identical to the European model. It could also borrow the equipment list, which includes features such as LED headlamps, Lane Keep Assist system, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display with a reverse parking camera, automatic wipers, rear cross traffic alert, front parking sensors, autonomous emergency braking, heated rear seats and blind spot detection.

Chinese-spec 2016 Hyundai Tucson side spotted testing — The Chinese-spec Hyundai Tucson will pack a 1.6-liter T-GDI petrol engine paired to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

The Chinese-spec Hyundai Tucson, as per the report, will pack the 1.6-liter T-GDI petrol engine paired to either a 6-speed manual transmission in entry-level trims, or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). Hyundai will also offer an AWD system as optional equipment.

Though unconfirmed, the Hyundai Tucson will be locally manufactured by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture. As per the report, it will be slotted above the old Hyundai ix35, and will also be available as a PHEV later on.
