The 2016 Fortuner is confirmed to get the new 'GD' lineup of diesel engines, a 2.4- and a 2.8-liter four-cylinder unit paired to 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. According to a report, the 2.8-liter engine will come only with an automatic gearbox.

Apart from the diesel engines, the new Fortuner will also offer its predecessor's 2.7-liter VVT-i petrol motor, albeit in a single variant.

Inside, Toyota has thoroughly revised the interior of the SUV with a new 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, a new instrument cluster with a multi-information display, and a vertically-oriented center console with a touchscreen entertainment system, automatic AC and storage spaces.

The top-end 2.8L variant will get only a 6AT, according to reports.

TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motor) will not introduce the 2016 Fortuner this calendar year, instead a launch is planned next year with an unveiling at the Auto Expo being a high possibility. The localization levels could be increased as the company will start manufacturing engines at a new plant in Jigani, Karnataka.
