Platform model planned to be sold globally.
Yamaha Indonesia has launched the Yamaha MT-25 in the Indonesian market for a price of 46 million Rupiah (INR 2.2 lakhs). The company has allotted a capacity of 10,000 units for the domestic market in the first year and "the future launch of the MT-25 is planned for many countries around the world, including developed markets." Essentially, the MT-25 is housed on the same platform that does duty on the Yamaha R25 and is the naked variant of the same.
The MT-25 sports the same 249 cc liquid-cooled engine in a parallel twin cylinder configuration that is found on the YZF-R25. The fuel-injected engine produces a healthy 36 PS and a peak torque of 22.6 Nm. A 6-speed gearbox does duty on this machine. Measuring 2,090 mm in length, 745 mm in width, and 1,035 mm in height, the naked bike gets a wheelbase of 1,380 mm. The MT-25 tips the scales at 165 kg and has a relatively small 14 liter fuel tank. The bike also sports a single disc brake setup at both ends.
The bike sports telescopic suspension at the front and an offset monoshock suspension at the rear. Interestingly, however, the front indicators are mounted on the headlight cluster almost on the handle bar. The stepped up rear seat is familiar to Indian patrons from the R15.
