Expected to launch in the second half of this calendar year.
With a launch expected to take place in the second half of this calendar year, the interior of a production-ready Tata Kite (codenamed) was snapped by TeamBHP member 'rosaf'.
The Indica-derived hatchback features a conventional center console with rectangular AC vents, a 2-DIN music system (possibly a Harman-Kardon unit), the three-spoke short diameter steering wheel and a low-set instrument cluster offering the driver an unobstructed view ahead.
While the Kite is based on the Indica's platform, it is reported to come with all-new engines. For the fuel efficiency conscious buyers, the Kite will offer a 1.05-liter three-cylinder diesel engine producing in the whereabouts of 70 bhp.
The petrol variants will source power from a newly-developed 1.2-liter three-cylinder unit, capable of about 75 bhp. Both engines are expected to be paired to manual and automated manual transmissions, though earlier reports indicated than an e-clutch system could be seen.
The Kite will primarily target the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Celerio and Chevrolet Beat, and will be positioned below the Bolt. Based on the Kite, Tata is also expected to introduce a compact sedan smaller than the Zest, which would replace the Indigo eCS in the personal-vehicle market. However, the Indica and Indigo are expected to be made available to the fleet market (taxi market) exclusively post the launch of the Kite twins.
