Aims to be more fuel-efficient than the Mahindra Quanto's 17.21 km/L rating.
Courtesy of Motorbeam readers Jobu George, Amal Keezhillam and Julian Bennet, a couple of test mules of the Mahindra U301 has been spotted testing in Kerala. Judging by the spyshots, the mule is equipped with production-spec headlamps which could sport optional LED guide lights, and features Jeep-inspired slat grilles.
Although the interior shot is not as clear as day, the black dashboard does look more premium with silver accents, and the infotainment display is seen powered on for the first time which features red background lighting. The overall design suggests that the U301 is built for utility and price than style.
Like the Bolero, it is based on a ladder-on-frame platform, but will be kept under 4 meters in overall length, allowing for small car excise duty benefits.
Power will be sourced from a 1.5-liter three cylinder diesel engine, which Mahindra is reportedly tweaking for increased fuel efficiency, with modifications being done to the gear ratios, turbo, intercooler and even the ECU.
