The all-new 2015 Honda Jazz will launch in India on July 8, 2015, Honda Cars India confirmed at the media drive held in Goa this week. When launched, the Jazz diesel will be India’s second most fuel efficient diesel passenger vehicle, apart from offering best-in-class efficiency.

The Jazz will get a manual and CVT box for the petrol, and a 6MT for the diesel.

The ARAI-rated efficiency of the Jazz i-DTEC is 27.3 km/l, just marginally lower than the recently-launched Celerio diesel’s 27.62 km/l. However, bear in mind that the Celerio diesel is a 900 kg small hatchback with a twin-cylinder 47.6 PS engine, whereas the Jazz is a premium hatchback with a four-cylinder 100 PS engine, weighing more than 1.1 tonnes.

The Jazz diesel gets the i-DTEC unit borrowed from the City capable of 100 PS and 200 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. Compared to the City, engineers have given taller gear ratios for the Jazz (as much as 8 percent higher than the City).

An all-black dashboard is standard across all variants of the Jazz.

The Jazz petrol gets a 1.2-liter four-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine capable of 90 PS and 110 Nm of torque. With a 5-speed manual, this version is good for 18.7 km/l whereas a CVT results in a higher 19 km/l ARAI figure.

The Jazz is the only vehicle in its segment to get a CVT; the Polo relies on a 7-speed DSG whereas Hyundai does not offer an AT on the Elite i20 just as yet. While the Nissan Micra does offer a CVT, it is positioned a step lower than the Jazz, and competes with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10.
