Posted on: May 19, 2015 - 12:39pm IST

Tata Motors today launched the GenX Nano at prices starting at INR 1.99 lakhs, ex-Showroom, Delhi. Below are the variant-wise prices of the Tata GenX Nano:

2015 Tata Nano GenX AMT front

  1. Tata GenX Nano XE MT – INR 1.99 lakhs
  2. Tata GenX Nano XM MT – INR 2.29 lakhs
  3. Tata GenX Nano XT MT – INR 2.49 lakhs
  4. Tata GenX Nano XMA AMT – INR 2.69 lakhs
  5. Tata GenX Nano XTA AMT – INR 2.89 lakhs

[Note: All prices are ex-Showroom, Delhi.]

The GenX Nano continues to be powered by the 624 cc twin-cylinder engine capable of 38.19 PS and 51 Nm of torque, matched to a 4-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automated manual transmission.

Thanks to additional strengthening materials (improved crumple zone and side impact beams), the GenX Nano MT weighs 25 kg more than the Nano Twist, which results in a dip in its efficiency. The GenX Nano MT returns 23.6 km/l whereas the AMT is good for 21.9 km/l (ARAI test results).

2015 Tata Nano GenX AMT interior
The GenX Nano is available in two interior shades – Beige and Black – depending on the variant.

The GenX Nano is also the first ever Nano to get a functional bootlid. On the manual variant, the Nano can accommodate 110 liters of luggage space, whereas the AMT variant has a boot capacity of 94 liters owing to a higher engine cover.

Cosmetic changes include new color additions (Sangria Red and Persian Rose), smoked headlight clusters, a piano-black grille element and new front and rear bumpers with an ‘Infinity-motif’ grille design (the latter were redesigned to house a new cooling system). Inside, the GenX Nano gets a 3-spoke short diameter steering wheel and new trims for the doors and seats. You can read our review of the GenX Nano AMT here.

TATA Nano team has done a commendable job in repositioning the nano. No doubt the openable boot and AMT are an opportunity for this prodcut to ring sales. Here are

few modifications expected on the product to suit city commuters.

    1) The head room is generous, but the low steering wheel hits the legs irrespective of driver height making ingress and egress less comfortable. Hence the steering wheel can have a flat bottom like VW vento to negate this drawback

    2) Rear passenger seat should have slideback feature to increase leg room of rear passengers when boot is free.

    3) Design language should follow cues from Swatch smart car (the current smiley design is not successful with toyotas).

    4) Color shades should include Maroon and grey (like Honda City and Skoda)

    5) Airbags can be optional.

    6) TATA should reintroduce 0% scheme using credit card

Wonder what made Tata stick to the odd looking dashboard. It was dated when lauched at first & is screaming to be replaced. Rest all looks good about the Nano. Hope people give Tata another chance.
