The C Class range is now assembled in India.
Mercedes-Benz India today started local assembly of the new 2015 C Class diesel, the C220 CDI. The new C Class diesel was launched in India in February this year, but it was imported through the CBU route. With this, the new C Class range (C200 petrol and C220 CDI diesel) is now assembled at the Pune plant.
As part of the 'Make in India' initiative, localization level on the new C220 CDI stands at 60 percent, the highest seen on a German luxury car (select models of BMW India feature localization content of up to 50 percent).
Prices of the new C220 CDI have correspondingly reduced by INR 2 lakhs. The locally-assembled C220 CDI is now priced at INR 37.9 lakhs for the 'Style' and INR 39.9 lakhs for the 'Avantgarde' trim, ex-Showroom, New Delhi.
It is powered by the 2,143 cc four-cylinder diesel engine which is capable of 167.6 hp between 3,000-4,200 rpm and 400 Nm of torque between 1,400-2,800 rpm, matched to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
