Powered by an all-new 998 cc engine.
India Yamaha Motor's website reveals that the 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 and the 2015 R1M are available in India with prices starting at INR 22.34 lakhs. The 2015 R1, available in two colors (Racing Blue and Racing Red) is priced at INR 22.34 lakhs while the R1M (available in Silver Blu Carbon) costs INR 29.43 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi.
Power for these motorcycles, which were unveiled at last year's EICMA show in Italy, comes from a liquid-cooled, parallel four-cylinder 998 cc engine good for 200 PS at 13,500 rpm and 112.4 Nm of torque at 11,500 rpm, matched to a 6-speed transmission.
Both bikes measure 2,055 mm in length, 690 mm in width, 1,150 mm in height and 1,405 mm in wheelbase. They are based on an aluminium deltabox frame with a telescopic suspension at the front and a swingarm for the rear. The R1 and the R1M get 320 mm dual discs in the front and a 220 mm disc for the rear.
The ground clearance of both these superbikes is 130 mm. They also feature a 17 liter fuel tank. What then is the difference between the R1 and R1M that results in a INR 7 lakhs difference in price one may ask.
The R1M is primarily designed for the racetrack and is equipped with carbon-fiber fairings, though dripping wet, it weighs 1 kg more than the standard R1 (the R1 weighs 199 kg while the R1M tips the scale at 200 kg). The reason for the additional kilogram, despite the weight-saving carbon-fiber fairing, is due to added suspension electronics and data logging electronics.
The R1M's seat height, at 860 mm, is 5 mm more than the standard R1 for a racier riding position. And finally, where the R1 gets a 190/55 tyre for its rear, the R1M sports a fatter 200/55 rubber. The front tyre of both motorcycles is a 120/70 unit on 17-inch rims.
