Debuts at the Auto Shanghai next week.
Volvo has revealed a range-topping variant on its new flagship SUV, the XC90. Called the XC90 Excellence, the Swedish car maker will debut the SUV at the Auto Shanghai next week, with global sales expected to commence later in the year.
Changes on the outside are very subtle: An 'Excellence' badge, chrome cappings for the B- and C-Pillars and lower door moldings mean that the most luxurious vehicle ever built by Volvo in its 88-year history could easily go unnoticed.
Inside though, the XC90 Excellence aims to rival the likes of the Range Rover Autobiography. Where the standard XC90 can carry seven occupants, the Excellence features seating for four in a 2+2 layout.
Volvo says the rear seats offer a 'First Class' like experience with reclining seats which feature massage, ventilation and increased legroom, a retractable control touchscreen, folding tables, a refrigerator with bottle and glass holders, a heating/cooling cup holder and handmade crystal glasses from Swedish glass design company, Orrefors.
Furter comfort features seen on the XC90 Excellence include footrests, ambient lighting, a luggage compartment dividing screen, additional sound insulation in the cabin and Pirelli Noise Canceling System tyres (PNCS).
Speaking of sound, a 'specially-augmented' 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system with surround effect in the rear seats is fitted as well. Volvo is yet to announce prices of the XC90 Excellence.

The new XC90 is due to go on sale in India this year. Given that Land Rover offers its exclusive seating package on the Range Rover, and the general inclination for high-end chauffeur driven SUVs in the country, Volvo Auto India could consider the Excellence variant as its flagship offering.
