Base trim LX stripped off features to bring it under INR 10 lakh.
With the launch of the 2015 Tata Safari Storme facelift is round the corner, the product guide presentation slides and product brochure have leaked out, shedding light on its technical details and features. The base LX trim may start from INR 9.99 lakhs onwards, reports Motorbeam.com.
The 2015 Safari Storme is powered same 2.2-liter 16V ‘VARICOR’ diesel engine but gets a power boost of 10 PS to a total 150 PS at 4,000 rpm and the usual 320 Nm torque at 1,700 rpm - 2,700 rpm. The engine is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, with an added self-adjusting clutch with 260 mm diameter fly wheel. Fuel tank capacity has now increased to 63 liters from 55 litres.
But where it turns out to be disappointing is that the entry-level trim i.e. LX, misses out some features that are offered in the outgoing LX, so as to achieve a price cut to bring it under INR 10 lakh. The discontinued features in the LX trim are rear disc brakes (replaced with drums), ABS with EBD, 16 inch wheel rims (now swapped with 235/75 15 inch steel rims), and Express Down feature all power windows limited only to the driver.
In addition, the LX doesn’t get the third row jump seats (making it a 5 seater), steering mounted audio controls, and side and rear foot steps. The LX gets only two colour options - Arctic White and Arctic Silver, with bumpers and cladding painted grey.
On the other hand, the EX and top-end VX variants get Harman music system with integrated ‘CONNECTNEXT’ feature, Ultrasonic reverse guide system with LCD screen (that of music system) only on VX, and Java Black interiors with few cosmetic changes both inside and out. All trims get remote central locking with flip key.
