An Audi RS3 Sedan could also be in the works to take on the Mercedes CLA 45 AMG.
The Audi RS3 Sportback made its trade fair premiere here at the Geneva Motor Show. The car was announced in December last year.
The go-faster version of the entry level luxury hatchback is positioned above the S3. Visually, the meanest version of the A3 Sportback can be identified by means of a lowered stance, larger intakes on the revised bumper, larger alloy wheels, body kit, a rear diffuser and dual exhaust tips.
The two-tone interior has a typical RS aura to its with a chunky flat-bottomed steering wheel and sports seats.
Under the hood is a 2.5-litre TFSI five-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is lifted from the 2015 Audi TT. Mated to a 7-speed S Tronic automatic transmission which sends power to all the four wheels via the Quattro system, the direct injection petrol motor dishes out an impressive 367 PS and 465 Nm of torque.
It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 250 km/h - or 280 km/h on request.
The Audi RS3 Sedan which was previewed last year by the Audi A3 Clubsport Quattro arrives at UK dealers this month. India could also get the Rennsport sedan when it's ready.
