Update - The first interior images have been leaked by AlMuraba.
Sporting a dashboard similar to the new Murano, the 2016 Maxima gets BMW i-Drive style rotary dial and a large infotainment display.
Notably the car features sport seats, a trip computer display that appears to be a digital unit, a dual-zone climate control, starter button placed ergonomically in front of the gear selector, flat-bottom steering and cruise control.
Next gen Nissan Sunny to borrow its design cues.
The 2016 Nissan Maxima has been previewed through a TV commercial aired last night during the Super Bowl XLIX. The car's precursor, the Nissan Sport Sedan concept, was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show 2014.
The car makes up very limited footage in the emotional "With Dad" advertisement, but clearly reveals its front three quarters view and rear fascia. Compared to the current Maxima, the vehicle is a big departure sporting a wide and low stance, a V-Motion front-end with boomerang headlamps, dynamic body side lines, a high deck and floating roof, all of which have filtered down from the concept car.
The Sport Sedan concept also defines the exterior direction of future Nissan sedans and crossovers, and it, with the new Maxima, provides a sense of what to expect from the next generation Nissan Sunny, which we were told will look sporty, by Nissan's head of design, Shiro Nakamura.
Nissan has not revealed the new Maxima's specifications, but reports speculate that the car will receive its world premiere at the 2015 New York Auto Show (that kicks off on April 1) while having a 3.5-liter V6 engine with at least 260 bhp on tap.
Though the Maxima's sales have been on the decline in the last few years in the U.S., as customers increasingly prefer mid-size sedans, former Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer had said the new Maxima would be sold to a wider spectrum of markets including the Middle East and Russia to make a stronger business case.
