Volkswagen India's record production of 111,444 units at the company's plant in Chakan was very much in line with what's happening at the global stage, as the company managed to deliver 10.14 million units worldwide between January and December, the highest ever.
This, the first step in VW's Strategy 2018, also marks a 4.2 per cent improvement over previous year's sales (9.73 million). Breaking down the sales figure, Volkswagen sold 6.12 million which is a double of what it achieved in 2004; Audi managed a total of 1.74 million units which is an increase of 10.5 per cent; Porsche sold 189,800 cars which accounts for a 17.1 per cent growth; Skoda registered 1.04 million sales which is an increment of 12.7 per cent; and lastly, SEAT with 390,300 units saw the sales grow by 12.7 per cent.
The commercial vehicle division of Volkswagen Group includes MAN, Scania, and VW Commercial Vehicle. Unlike the passenger cars, the commercial vehicles registered a drop ranging from 0.8 per cent in case of Scania to 14.4 per cent in case of MAN.
