Takata was the supplier for the faulty component.
According to a report from the Economic Times, Renault India will recall its Pulse hatchback and Scala sedan owing to an airbag flaw. About 646 units are affected, the report states.
The affected cars, made between September 2011 and July 2012, include 620 units of the Pulse and 26 units of the Scala. These cars may have a faulty driver side airbag, supplied by Japan's Takata. Renault will begin contacting affected customers and carry out the necessary repair free of cost.
The Pulse and the Scala are made at the Renault Nissan Alliance's plant in Oragadam, Chennai, and are basically badge-engineered models of the Nissan Micra and Sunny respectively. In October last year, Nissan India announced a recall for the Micra and Sunny for a similar airbag defect.
In fact, globally, over 8 million cars are affected by faulty components supplied by Takata. The list of affected brands include Nissan, Honda, Ford, BMW, Toyota and GM.
