Mercedes-Benz India will launch the CLA Class sedan on January 22. Unlike other compact models like the A Class, B Class and GLA Class, the CLA will not be imported into the country via the CBU (Completely Built up Unit) route, but will be assembled at the Chakan plant in Pune, Maharashtra.
The CLA will launch with a petrol and a diesel engine in India. The petrol engine is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit capable of 181 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 300 Nm of torque between 1,200-1,400 rpm. Paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the CLA 200 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.8 seconds and hits a top-speed of 235 km/h. Mercedes claims a fuel efficiency of 15.04 km/l.
The CLA 200 CDI is powered by a 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine developing 134 bhp between 3,600-4,400 rpm and 300 Nm of torque between 1,600-3,000 rpm. It too uses a 7-speed gearbox, and sprints to 100 km/h in 9.8 seconds while hitting a top-speed of 220 km/h. The CLA 200 CDI averages 17.9 km/l.
Apart from features like 6-airbags, ABS, EBD and ASR, the CLA will be equipped with Bi-Xenon headlights, reversing camera, a Harman Kardon surround system with 12-speakers, and a panoramic roof.
