It will be powered by new petrol and diesel engines.

CarToq has snapped the upcoming Tata Kite (codename) hatchback just outside Tata's Engineering and Research Center in Pimpri, Pune. Based on a re-engineered version of the Indica's platform, the Kite and the compact sedan based on it will be the next set of 'all-new' products to come from Tata Motors.

The Kite is based on a modified version of the Indica's platform.

Reports have so far suggested that the Kite will adopt fresh styling. Design elements akin to the Indica like the christmas-tree shaped taillights and the horizontal grille layout will make way for a newer design.

Power for the Kite twins is expected from a new 1.2-liter petrol engine and a 1.05-liter three-cylinder diesel engine, the latter having its power and torque outputs in the vicinity of 64 bhp and 142 Nm. Both engines will get 5-speed manual transmissions, but Tata could also explore the possibility of using the automated manual transmission (AMT).

Production of the Kite is reported to take place at Tata's Sanand plant in Gujarat, which is under utilized at the moment. The Kite, and even the sedan, should see better utilization of this plant.
