The YRA will give reasons not to buy the Swift.
The Maruti YRA (codename) premium hatchback, which is expected to go on sale in India in the second half of 2015, will weight a good 90 kg lighter than the Swift, a report from Auto Express says.
The publication spoke to Dale Wyatt, Sales and Marketing head of Suzuki GB, who confirmed that the company will reveal the new hatchback at the Geneva Motor Show, which takes place in the first week of March 2015. Wyatt describes the new hatch as a car that will "answer all the reasons not to buy a Swift".
As previously reported by Indian Autos Blog, Wyatt says that the hatch will sport a larger boot and more space at the rear, to rival the likes of spacious cars such as the new Honda Jazz. It will not be as "dynamically wired" as the Swift, he said, but "very comfortable" nevertheless.
The YRA will weigh 90 kg lighter than the Swift, indicating that Maruti could achieve best-in-class fuel efficiency. Based on the weight savings indicated by Wyatt, it could be that engineers are using the same type of High Tensile Strength Steel that is seen on the Ciaz, which weighs a mere 1,010 kg, the lightest in its class.
