Based on the NMC concept.
The VW Lamando, the production version of the New Midsize Coupe Concept, is in attendance at the Guangzhou Auto Show 2014. The coupe-ish sedan which slots between the Jetta and Passat world premiered at the Chengdu Auto Show in August 2014.
Based on the MQB architecture, the Lamando is restricted to the Chinese market, at least as of now. The low-slung wide 4-door coupe can be roughly classified as a Jetta CC in terms of styling. The front and rear fascias are remarkably close to those of the international Jetta.
The dual-tone beige interior features several components that are found in the Jetta. Salient features include a flat-bottomed multifunction steering wheel, faux wooden inserts and a multimedia infotainment system with a 6.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display.
The Lamando which is to be manufactured exclusively by the SAIC-VW joint venture is powered by the 1.8-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine which is mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The company is yet to announced the performance figures.
The premium 4-door coupe is positioned as a more affordable alternative to the likes of Mercedes CLA. The richly equipped Lamando features driver fatigue sensor, blind sport detection, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and so on.
