A litre class adventure tourer.
The BMW S 1000 XR, the latest litre class Bimmer, has made its global debut at the EICMA 2014. The adventure tourer is closely related to the S 1000 RR superbike.
The styling is typical of an adventure tourer with long travel suspension, a high mounted fairing with dual-headlamps, split seats, knuckle guards and touring-friendly tyres.
The mile muncher is powered by the same 999 cc four-cylinder inline engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The powertrain is tuned to suit the long distance touring and has claimed outputs of 160 PS (157.74 bhp) at 11,000 rpm and 112 Nm of torque at 9,250 rpm.
The rider is cushioned by an upside down telescopic fork at the front a monoshock at the rear both of which are fully adjustable and can be specified with Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment). The chassis is an aluminium-alloy perimeter frame.
Standard ABS brakes are on offer but the tourer can also be specc'ed with optional ABS Pro which deploys even while cornering. Other equipment include Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and two riding modes (Dynamic and Dynamic Pro).
