China gets two engine options.
At the ongoing Guangzhou Auto Show 2014, Hyundai has showcased the next generation 2015 Sonata in China where the car is expected to make it to the showrooms sometime early next year. It's based on an all-new platform, is slightly bigger, and boasts a better torsional rigidity than the outgoing car.
On the outside, the new Sonata boasts a very fresh design that enables it to stand neck to neck with its rivals. The LED treatment on the headlamps, the coupe-like roofline, and the striking rear stand out. The Chinese model shown here is reported to have received minor design updates, too, owing to the market preferences there.
It measures 4,855mm in length, 1,865mm in width, and 1,475mm in height. This, the ninth generation Sonata is feature laden inside with things like automatic climate control, heated front seats being standard. In terms of safety the new car is offered with 6 airbags, and a set of driver aids including stability control (ESP), ABS, blind-spot detection, cruise control, etc.
Talking about the mechanicals, it's still front wheel driven while the engine options for the Chinese market include two 2-litre petrol engines, one is naturally aspirated while the other is turbocharged. Both are said to be offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Unveiled first in South Korea earlier this year, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata has made a few appearances worldwide with the most recent in Malaysia. Its Indian arrival is yet to be confirmed by the company.
