BMW India today launched the new generation Mini 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks. The 3-door Mini Cooper D is priced at INR 31.85 lakhs, ex-Showroom, pan India.
The new Mini 3-door is available in India with two engine options. The Cooper D is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder diesel engine which makes 114 hp and 270 Nm of torque. It does 0-100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and achieves a top-speed of 200 km/h. Paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission, the 3-door Cooper D averages 25.6 km/l.
The Cooper S is powered by a four-cylinder 2.0-liter petrol engine producing 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque. Matched to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the Cooper S accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, achieving a top-speed of 233 km/h. 18.2 km/l is the official fuel efficiency claim for this variant.
Based on the UKL front-wheel drive platform, the new Mini is larger than the outgoing model. The car measures 3,821 mm in length, 1,414 mm in height, 1,727 mm in width and 2,495 mm in wheelbase. The length has been increased by 98 mm, the width by 44 mm, the height by 7 mm and the wheelbase by 28 mm.
Boot volume too has increased by 51 liters, to 211 liters. With the rear seats folded, the new 3-door Mini can swallow up 731 liters of luggage.
The Indian model comes shod with 16-inch 195/55 alloy wheels. 11 exterior shades will be offered on the car.
The Cooper S will be available in India in the first quarter of 2015, which is when the price will be disclosed.
