7-seat Discovery Sport replaces the Freelander early next year.
The Land Rover Discovery Sport is revealed for the first time publicly at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The replacement for the Freelander will roll out from the company's Halewood facility, and sales in UK are announced to start early next year.
Initially, the SUV will be offered with two four-cylinder engines. The 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol (Ford EcoBoost unit) and the 2.2-liter diesel can be fitted with 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic transmissions, sending drive to two wheels or all wheels.
The Discovery Sport comes with seating for 7 occupants, yet has its dimensions rivaling a 5-seat SUV, says Land Rover.
And to do justice to the nameplate, the Discovery Sport has approach, departure and breakover angles of 25, 31 and 21 degrees respectively, the Terrain Response system, and the ability to wade up to a depth of 600 mm.
Inside, the Discovery Sport gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Head-up display and autonomous emergency braking, to list a few features.
The Discovery Sport is expected to arrive in India next year. This, and the Jaguar XE, will be big ticket launches for JLR in India in 2015.
