Jaguar Land Rover opened its new engine manufacturing center located near Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, U.K. The 500 million pound facility (INR 4,900 crores approximately) which was announced in September 2011 will see in-house engine production for the “first time in a generation”, says JLR.

The 100,000 sq.m facility has an engine testing center as well.

The facility is responsible for making the new family of Ingenium engines. It will start making the 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine early next year, which will power the new Jaguar XE sedan.

The 100,000 square meter facility will house an engine-testing centre alongside manufacturing and assembly halls, and will employ 2,000 powertrain engineers.

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel motor will be available in two power states on the XE. The base variant will make 163 PS (160.7 bhp) and 380 Nm of torque, and the more powerful variant generates 180 PS (177.46 bhp) and 430 Nm of torque. Both variants can be had with a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission.
