An SUV based on the new Polo is under consideration.
Germany's Auto Bild magazine reports that the next generation of the VW Polo will enter production in Europe in March 2016. The publication reports that the new Polo is being designed by VW's design head, Klaus Bischoff. Early details indicate that the new Polo will be almost Golf-like in appearance with a sportier and edgier design with a distinctive silhouette.
Previous reports say that the 2017 VW Polo will be the first compact car from brand to use the MQB platform (the new Fabia is only partly based on MQB and uses its older platform mostly). Obvious resultants of this is that the car would weigh lesser, yet have a stiffer body shell than the current model.
VW's digital instrument cluster which is currently seen on the new Audi TT and the new Passat could feature on the Polo as well, given that even the present day model is equipped with high-end features like LED headlights (for Europe).

More interestingly, Auto Bild says that the new Polo will have its own SUV derivative with a different body, raised ground clearance, larger wheels and a taller roof.
