The Proton Iriz has been fully revealed by the company's chairman and the former prime minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, as he drove it on the streets of Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Proton's first global hatchback will compete with the Perodua Myvi in the domestic market and will face the likes of VW Up! and Hyundai i10 (called as the Grand i10) on its overseas assignment.
The compact car has a contemporary design and is well equipped to justify its global status. The high-end variants come with 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, BA, ESP, TCS, HHA, touchscreen multimedia infotainment system with reverse parking camera and navigation, leather seats, start/stop button and 15-inch alloy wheels.
Powertrain options include 1.3- and 1.6-litre VVT petrol engines which are offered with either a manual gearbox or a CVT. Taking into account the powertrain combinations and trim levels, the Iriz will be available in a total of 8 variants.
