Hints at more mass market launches.
Honda Cars India Limited has kick-started the process of preparing for its third manufacturing facility in India. The land acquisition process is, at present, in its preliminary phase and the entire plan is yet to be finalized, says a report.
When up and running, the plant will add to HCIL's existing capacity of 2.4 lakh units from its two facilities in Greater Noida and Tapukara plants. The Tapukara plant began serial production last February with the Honda Amaze. As recent as last month, the company shifted production of the popular Honda City sedan to this facility as well.
At present, the Tapukara facility is running one shift and producing 60,000 units a year. Starting this November, the company has confirmed that it will begin the second shift in the facility. Spread over 450 acres, the Tapukara facility is thrice the size of the first plant in Greater Noida.
The first five months of the current fiscal has seen the company's sales jump 48 percent to hit 73,119 units. HCIL's sales has been roaring ever since it had launched the Honda Amaze in the second quarter of last year and was boosted by subsequent launches of the Honda City and the Honda Mobilio. For the present fiscal, the company is set to launch the Honda Jazz hatchback as well, apart from the new Honda Accord sometime next fiscal.
