Introduced in India in 2008 under the hood of the A-Star, K-Series engines now power seven Maruti Suzuki models. The K-10 engine, which is a three-cylinder 1.0-liter unit, powers the Wagon R, Alto K10 and the recently launched Celerio. The K-12, a four-cylinder 1.2-liter engine, is found under the hoods of the Swift, Dzire and Ritz. The most powerful family member, the K-14 which is a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine, powers the Ertiga MPV, and would also power the soon-to-launch Ciaz sedan.

The K-10 engine is good for 68 PS (67.04 bhp) and 90 Nm of torque, the K-12 produces 87 PS (85.77 bhp) and 114 Nm, and finally the K-14 does with 95 PS (93.66 bhp) and 130 Nm. These engines are also used to power CNG and LPG variants of these cars.

The upcoming Ciaz is expected to use a K-Series engine as well.

Interestingly, the first K-Series engine was made in October of 2008. In August 2010, less than two years after the first engine was made, Maruti produced the 500,000th K-Series engine. And now, in about four years from making the 500,000th engine, the company seems to have ramped up production of the engine to achieve the 25 lakh figure.
