Spied – Maruti Ciaz gets projector headlamp, series production commences

SX4 successor to launch in India next month.

Ahead of a market launch which is reported to take place next month, Maruti Suzuki have started production of the Maruti Ciaz sedan at their plant in Manesar, Haryana. As these images from Gaadiwaadi show, India’s largest car maker is believed to have made over 600 units of the sedan already.

Images here show the projector headlight of the car, and the color palette that would be on offer (a total of 7 colors would be offered according to the report).

The Ciaz will be launched with a petrol and a diesel engine option. The petrol motor is likely to be the 1.4-liter K-Series engine borrowed from the Ertiga, whereas the diesel would the tried-and-tested 1.3-liter Fiat Multijet.

The petrol engine would make about 95 PS (93.6 bhp) and 130 Nm of torque, and will come paired to a 5-speed manual transmission and possibly a CVT. The diesel will have outputs of 90 PS (88.73 bhp) and 200 Nm of torque, and will come with a manual gearbox only.

Maruti dealers are expected to commence pre-launch bookings this month.

Competitors: Honda City, Hyundai Verna, VW Vento, Skoda Rapid, Fiat Linea, Nissan Sunny

Expected Price: INR 7.5 – 10.5 lakhs, ex-Showroom

Launch Date: September 2014

    Looks dull, boring and dated overall. Doesn’t even come close to the concept. Typical Maruti, it just doesn’t excite you. The Tata Zest despite being a segment lower and costs couple of lakhs lesser, looks lot more premium and upmarket and has an emotional connect
    The front fascia looks horrible despite the projector headlamps, the rear is slightly better while the side profile can be ignored. Looks like a sales disaster in the waiting. Maruti would continue to be small car maker king for longer.

    In profile it looks like a Vento ,nothing much compared to the concept shown at Auto Expo 2014
