To have start-stop and kinetic energy recuperation systems as standard.

Skoda have announced the engine lineup for the upcoming new generation Fabia. In a gist, the manufacturer says that the hatchback has a 17 percent improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the outgoing model. This comes partly thanks to the 65 kg weight loss on the car. In fact, the base variant of the Fabia will weigh only 980 kg.

A GreenLine variant will deliver about 32 km/l.

Skoda will offer the Fabia with a choice of four petrol and three diesel engines, all complying to EU6 emission norms. Also, all engines will come with a start-stop system and kinetic energy recuperation system as standard. Transmission choices will include manual and DSG automatic gearboxes.

The petrol lineup will include the three-cylinder 1.0-liter MPI engine and the four-cylinder 1.2-liter TSI engine. Power outputs will range from 60 bhp to 110 bhp. The diesel engine range will be powered by a common three-cylinder direct-injection 1.4-liter engine in power states of 74 bhp and 103 bhp. The earlier 1.6-liter four-cylinder TDI engine is discontinued.

  1. Dr. Nayak says:

Output from these engines are lower than that of Revotron series of Tata. Tata may be right in saying that their engines are revolutionary based on MPFI. I think GDI is the way to go. “Poor quality of fuel” in India is just nonsense as regurgitated by few against GDI, as quality of fuel is of concern whether you use MPFI, SMPFI, GDI or CRDI. GDI can even tolerate diesel contamination in petrol; all they need is an extra/oversized fuel filter to filter out particulate matter present in contaminated fuels due to poor handling.
