Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has commenced exporting the Etios Cross to South Africa. The Cross, stacked above the Etios hatch and sedan, went on sale in South Africa this month for 159,800 Rand (INR 8.99 lakhs).
The Etios (available in hatch and sedan) enjoys excellent demand in SA racking up sales of over 45,000 units within two years of its launch. The Etios is the best selling Indian-made car in South Africa this year, and since the launch, has been a regular feature in the top 5 monthly sales standing.
While the Etios Cross is available in India with three engine options, it is available only with the 1.5-liter petrol engine in South Africa. This engine makes 90 PS (88.7 bhp) and 132 Nm of torque and comes paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 1.2-liter petrol and 1.4-liter diesel, offered in India, are unavailable for the South African market.
The South African Cross is identical to the domestic model in terms of specifications and features. The exterior gets a rough road bodykit with bumpers, roof rails, diamond cut alloy wheels and plastic side moldings, and the interior receives a piano-black center console with 'Cross' badging on the seats. The Cross is sold in its top-end trim and hence receives dual airbags, ABS and EBD as standard.
The Etios Cross went on sale in India in May this year, and as of this month, the company has received over 5,400 bookings for the car. The car is priced from INR 5.76 lakhs to INR 7.4 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi.
