Ahead of its market launch next year, the Land Rover Discovery Sport has started its final real world road tests, the company informed in a press release.
Prototypes left the company's Halewood facility in the UK to begin their final testing and development activity across several continents, Land Rover said. The Halewood plant will be responsible for building the SUV.
The new Discovery Sport will be available with a 5+2 seating configuration keeping in mind the 'Discovery' nameplate. To show what is in store, the prototypes are camouflaged with a wrap revealing the second and third row seats of the SUV.
Land Rover's Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, Gerry McGovern, says that the Sport will have a compact footprint like traditional five-seat SUVs despite offering seven seats. It must be mentioned that McGovern confirmed the 5+2 seating arrangement to Indian Autos Blog at the Auto Expo earlier this year.
The Discovery Sport is expected to take design cues from the Discovery Vision Concept that was shown at the New York Auto Show this year. It would receive power from JLR's new Ingenium family of petrol and diesel engines. The Discovery Sport is expected to launch in India in late 2015 or in early 2016.
