Hyundai launched a refreshed Verna in the Russian market last month (where the Verna is called the Solaris). The updated Verna brings to the sedan redesigned headlights, bumpers, grille, foglights and a new automatic gearbox. A recent report states that the refreshed Verna will enter the Indian market later this year.

The updates come in the form of new headlights, grille, bumpers and foglights.

The Solaris facelift which went on sale in Russia last month saw no changes to its interior. However, the automatic gearbox for the petrol engine which used a 4-speed unit was updated to a 6-speed transmission. Changes are minimalistic at the rear as well, as LED taillights and a slightly modified bumper are the only differences.

In India, the Verna's engines would remain untouched. The car is offered with four engine choices - 1.4-liter petrol and diesel, and 1.6-liter petrol and diesel. The 1.6-liter engines, which can be had with 4-speed automatic gearboxes as well as manual, should ideally receive the updated 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Verna was leading its segment (in terms of sales volumes) until earlier this year when the new Honda City was launched. The City outsells the Verna in a 2.18:1 ratio at the moment. A comprehensive facelift could put the Verna back on top again, or if not, at least close the sales gap with the City.
